Die Wiege des Lebens setzt ihren Kurs vor, doch Xk Rho Pi-8 hat alle Hände voll zu tun den völlig überlasteten Reaktion im Zaum zu halten. Die verbesserte Geschwindigkeit reicht nicht aus, um einen signifikanten Vorsprung zu erreichen, und der gerade in Flammen aufgehende Zerstörer setzt nach[1]. Die Schüsse prasseln aus nur noch einer Batterie auf das Schiff der Ketzer ein und überlädt die armen Schilde, aber richten zum Glück keine größeren Schaden an. Oracia bestätigt den Befehl widerwillig über Funk.

Doch wenig später geht eine Erschütterung durch das Schiff, die Bordkonsolen beginnen im grünen Licht zu leuchten und mehrere Textmeldungen verkünden den bevorstehenden Eintritt in den Warp. Die Sichtfenster schließen sich, als plötzlich rote Warnsignale anspringen. Der andere Zerstörer ist viel zu nahe, doch ehe der Vorgang abgebrochen werden kann, geht ein lautes Krachen durch das Schiff, alle Insassen werden zu Boden gerissen und die Lampen beginnen gespenstisch an zu flackern. Oracias Stimme halt in den Köpfen aller wieder und keiner ist sich sicher, woher sie kommt. Aus dem Funk oder doch woanders her.

Wird die Verbindung mit einem markerschütternden Schrei abgebrochen. Das gesamte Innere des Schiffes ist ein grünlichen Nebel getaucht, während überall geisterhafte Erscheinungen herum schweben. Finstere Stimme versuchen den Verstand aller Insassen vergiften[2]. Varna richtet sich schwerfällig auf und sieht auf den noch funktionierenden Cogitatoren, dass das Schiff einige Schäden davon getragen hat.[3] Etliche der Bildschirme sind gesprungen und einige zeigen völligen Irrsinn an. Sie sind definitiv im Warp gelandet.
