The beholder, hovering some 10 feet above ground in the darkness, some 40 feet away from the main bulk of drow, is hailed with missiles and a thrown flask. Yet again, anything that hits him in the darkness draws more chuckles rather than cries of pain. "I'll have you soon, drowlings!", its voice sounds near you at the end of the round. Zouhlnor is close by now, certainly in reach of his weapon.

When the eye's ray passes over him, Narzen takes a shot at it, but his aim is not good enough to find a weak spot in the beholder's hide. Those near it note from its movements that the skeleton thows one of its spears at the beholder, it's mark not bad. Whether it scores a meaningful hits can hardly be discerned though.

Anyone over whom the eye's ray passes notices that anything magic seems to stop working, item, spell, and what have you.

When Zouhlnor closed in on the beholder, Zhadristan discarded the thunderstone in favor of his hand crossbow.
He will wait behind his cover for an opportunity to shoot.

Waiting for an opportune moment, Zhadristan aims at where he expects the beholder to be, but a rather distant clack on stone tells him that the bolt went wide as well.

Alas, round IX is upon you.

With the acid failing in it's purpose, Zouhlnor lets his inner wrath consume him. His muscles ripple, knuckles whiten around the handle of fourth fury and he swings at the laughing bulbous beast.

Iira leaves his place of cover and moves towards the sound of the orbs taunting and luaghter as well as Zouhlnor's laughter. When he reaches the point he is pretty sure the orb is at he swings his chain in an arc over his head, hoping to hit the beast in the process. If anyone happens to be able to see him moving note that his legs seem to move a bit faster then normal.

Being lazy on sending this part. Iira manifests Burst as a swift action to boost his land speed by 10 feet for the round in order to close the distance between him and the beholder.

The magical darkness covers up all that is going on right now. The skeleton throws its second spear (you can determine that well enough) and you hear it hammer into one of the fungi behind the beholder. Another of Narzens crackling bolts whistle past and shatters against the wall, while a lashing sound comes from near the creature too. The latter growls: "Now, lets the play begin in earnest, shall we?" Its eye fixes on Zouhlnor, who lashes out with his axe, but misses the beast narrowly. He sees it floating upwards, but out of the darkness lashes Iira's chain and scores a decent hit. Magic crackles along the metal, though it seems to have no visual effect on the beholder. The others hear Kethryllia talking with Nata'al while another two arrows from Geirildin huming through the air. After a heartbeat or two, Nata'al shouts in drow: "All get ready! We need to drop the darkness to attack it. Either that or we back off to a better field of battle. To much space! We cast spells to get support in any case!" Soon afterwards, Jhalashar adds: "I cast another darkness as cover, if necessary!"

"I failed to injure that accursed beast even with a spell to aid my shot," Narzen says blankly, "Attacks in between summoning darkness may get us a few lucky hits, but I doubt it will be enough before we are forced to retreat."

"And with all due respect, if we are to retreat, I suggest doing so before we have spent all our resources," he adds, taking aim in the general direction of the beholder regardless.

Jhalashar seems to remember something, adding the following: "It cannot charm those who felt the spell I cast from the horn. T'will not help against much else though, but strengthens our ability to resist its spells too." From behind you (the path), Talice's voice can be heard shouting: "The beast is above the darkness now!"

"Then cloak it in darkness again before it attacks you! Let us regroup and move to a better position." Zhadristan shouts back, thereby revealing his position. Then he retreats.

Nata'al, Geirildin, and Jhalashar come out of the magical darkness, facing the general direction of the beholder, bows ready.
